The fact that Ranveer Singh’s Padmaavat role of Alauddin Khilji was loved more than Shahid’s character in the movie is proof that negative roles in the industry and the way audiences perceive them have changed over a period of time. And how can we forget Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker that has taken movie buffs across the world by storm?

Not only the audiences, Indian actors are enticed by such roles too. Earlier, Janhvi Kapoor had expressed her wish of playing a female Joker. And now, Ayushmann Khurrana, one of the most sought after actors of the industry, has also said that he wants to play a negative roles on the likes of Joker.

In an interview with Mid-Day, Ayushmann Khurrana said that he is looking forward to playing a dark role now. “The audience hasn't seen the dark side to me. I would love to play a negative character, say a desi version of the Joker. I find the character fascinating. He represents the side that we all have but don't acknowledge; the part that doesn't want to conform to social niceties."

And he believes that we need to have strong writers to write such stellar roles. “To make an Indian version of Joker, you need the support of a scriptwriter and a director [who] share the same vision."
